The CatStrand - A Green Venue

The CatStrand - One of Scotland's Greenest Venues ...

Green Tourism - Awaiting gradingWe are part of a new breed of sustainable public building, that uses innovative architectural design, to minimise environmental impact. Clever use of natural light, insulation and efficient heating minimises our energy use. We are proud that we were the first public building in Scotland to use a wood pellet boiler. We rely heavily on small businesses in the area supporting the local economy, and providing us with local hand crafted produce. These initiatives minimise our environmental impact and help create a unique venue and relaxing atmosphere.

Our steps to sustainability include:

  • Energy efficient wood pellet boiler which provides the building with underfloor heating.
  • Well insulated, sustainable building design making good use of natural light.
  • Recycling system for office and kitchen waste.
  • Promoting small local business through local food produce in the shop and cafe, supporting the local economy and minimising food miles.
  • Wholesome homemade food and baking produced on site.
  • Energy efficient lighting throughout.
  • Use of green cleaning materials.

The CatStrand is currently awaiting grading from The Green Tourism Business Scheme.
